If you fly to Malindi Airport, then you are about 30 minutes drive to Watamu. I however prefer slow travel and always avoid Air travel whenever possible so I took a train from Nairobi to Mombasa then a taxi to the hotel.
It’s been a while since I accepted an invitation from hotels because of my switch to Responsible Tourism and Conscious Fashion. Kobe is one of the hotels in Kenya that I started following closely after making my switch because I saw how they preserve the nature around this beautiful hotel. When they contacted me for partnership, it was a little of a no brainer. It had 3 major things that a responsible traveller is currently looking for. Commitment to limiting environmental impact, Plastic-free: toiletries in bulk dispensers not single-use plastic, and Zero-miles: seasonal, local, organic and/or sustainably sourced food.
The management of Kobe has implemented all protocols in order to comply with new rules and regulations against the fight to prevent the spread of COVID-19. The hotel employees had their masks on all the time, and wash stations with hand sanitisers were easily accessible.
Upon arrival you meet friendly askaris(guards) at the entrance who will offer you hand sanitiser, check your temperature, politely ask you to wash your hands for your own safety, and help you with your bags. Due to changing shifts, you will also get to meet the other guards. At the reception, we were met with beautiful interior decor and warm smiles. The team was super responsive, but most importantly, warm, friendly and they offered so many brilliant suggestions for things to do in the area. Below is a short video of our stay at Kobe.
Our suite during our stay was The standard garden view which came equipped with a private balcony, living room, bedroom and a stunning shower with toiletries in bulk dispensers and not single-use plastic (this is the first thing I check because I still don’t understand why some hotels use single-use toiletries).
Their all-white decor, linen, and furniture felt clean, warm, and very comfortable. It blended well with the intense colours of the lush greenery and stunning blue ocean.
Breakfast was my favorite during our stay. It’s a combination of buffet spread and hot items. The best thing about the breakfast menu is that it offered fresh fruits and vegetables, all kinds of tea and fresh coffee.
THINGS TO LOVE: The hotel is located super close to the beach (you couldn’t ask for a better location). We had two swimming pools, a beach bar/restaurant and a few minutes walk to the kite surfing school. But more than that, all their rooms come with spacious balconies. Some with garden view and some with sea view. We only closed our balcony doors late in the night because the breeze from the trees and the sound of the ocean gave our trip an additional level of positive energy that I will remember forever.
Should you stay here? If you love the beautiful white sandy beach, like good service, enjoy a great holiday while limiting your environmental impact, then Kobe Suite Resort is for you.
